Noted arms historian Thomas B. Nelson early developed an avid interest in all types of small arms, particularly of automatic weapons. His studies at the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio, and the University of Cincinnati lay the groundwork for his books. In 1958 Nelson joined the U.S. Army and served under Col. G. B. Jarrett in the Foreign Material Section of the Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Ground. At Aberdeen, he attended the Army Ordnance Technical Intelligence School. He was subsequently stationed in Virginia, there to perform comprehensive work in the conventional weapons division of the Technical Intelligence Agency headquarters. After military service, he worked from 1961 to 1970 at Interarmco (later Interarms) as vice-president responsible for Latin America and all of Southeast Asia. He was founder of Collector’s Armoury, Ltd. In 1963 Nelson published his first title, The World’s Submachine Guns, which was reprinted six times and sold in excess of 25,000 copies. Mr. Nelson’s second title, The World’s Assault Rifles, which was co-authored with his colleague Dan Musgrave, was published in 1967
