The World's Assault Rifles(2024 New-Third Edition)

The World’s Assault Rifles, Third Edition, is an in-depth history of the gradual turning point from the type of rifles used by the world’s armies before the 20th Century. The lighter, shorter and automatic models first seen in the mid-1930’s proved superior where closer offenses and mass assaults took place using the advances in rifles and ammunition. 77 countries, twenty-four chapters and some 1,200 images fill 1,239 pages with weapons and their history as never before seen, as well as a view of what the future may hold, not only in weaponry, but also how they affect how wars might be fought.

About AUTHORS

Gary Paul Johnston

Highly regarded firearms writer Gary Paul Johnston has studied, fired and written about guns for more than 70 years, and began carrying them every day for 28 years after joining the LAPD in 1963. Gary began writing about firearms in 1977 and has published more than 2,000 articles in dozens of firearms periodicals worldwide. However, he still sees himself as a serious student of this fascinating field that is constantly growing and changing. As a Life and Endowment member of the NRA, Gary is an avid supporter of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in protecting Americans’ Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Gary gives enormous credit to his longtime friend, Thomas B. Nelson, author of the original volume of The World’s Assault Rifles in 1967 whom he considers an icon and a legend in the field of firearms in general and assault rifles in particular. Without Mr. Nelson’s perseverance, this third edition could not have been written.

Thomas B. Nelson

Noted arms historian Thomas B. Nelson early developed an avid interest in all types of small arms, particularly of automatic weapons. His studies at the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio, and the University of Cincinnati lay the groundwork for his books. In 1958 Nelson joined the U.S. Army and served under Col. G. B. Jarrett in the Foreign Material Section of the Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Ground. At Aberdeen, he attended the Army Ordnance Technical Intelligence School. He was subsequently stationed in Virginia, there to perform comprehensive work in the conventional weapons division of the Technical Intelligence Agency headquarters. After military service, he worked from 1961 to 1970 at Interarmco (later Interarms) as vice-president responsible for Latin America and all of Southeast Asia. He was founder of Collector’s Armoury, Ltd. In 1963 Nelson published his first title, The World’s Submachine Guns, which was reprinted six times and sold in excess of 25,000 copies. Mr. Nelson’s second title, The World’s Assault Rifles, which was co-authored with his colleague Dan Musgrave, was published in 1967
